Network Homes gains HouseProud Pledge Pioneer accreditation for our LGBTQ+ work

28 January 2021

Network Homes is pleased to have achieved HouseProud Pledge Pioneer accreditation for our support for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer (LGBTQ+) residents.

We signed up to the HouseProud Pledge in 2019 which is a scheme designed to ensure LGBTQ+ residents are able to enjoy their homes without fear of discrimination. The Pledge Pioneer status means Network Homes has achieved substantial progress in delivering three core commitments:

  • We have formal arrangements in place to consult with LGBTQ+ residents
  • We have visibly promoted our commitment to LGBTQ+ resident inclusivity
  • We have initiated a programme of staff training to improve understanding of LGBTQ+ resident lives

The Pledge was developed by HouseProud (a network for LGBTQ+ people working in social housing) and the University of Surrey in response to the No Place Like Home study. This was the largest of its kind in the UK, to understand the experiences, concerns and preferences of LGBTQ+ social housing residents.

Michael Thorne, Chair of the Network Homes LGBTQ+ Group, said: “This accreditation from HouseProud is a testament to all the great work done by Network’s LGBTQ+ Equality Group. Despite the challenges of the pandemic we have managed to reach out to residents and promote LGBTQ+ equality internally, through online events, articles, and discussions. We won’t rest on our laurels – this year we will be ramping up our activity and working more closely with residents."

I’m really proud that Network Homes has achieved Houseproud Pledge Pioneer status. We’ve worked really hard to get this point but know there’s still more to do. Every LGBTQ+ resident should feel supported at home and it’s important that we listen to the views of our LGBTQ+ residents and for their voices to be heard at the highest level.
